Since the lovely Alek is off on her amazing trip to Paris she asked me to do a guest post to keep you all entertained for a day. Getting an email from Alek in which she tells you that she admires your style and point of view is so very sweet and also stressful, because I wanted to make sure I did the perfect post.
I’ve loved to decorate for as long as I can remember. I’ve been doing it for quite a while and in the very beginning I remember how it important it was for me to have things match. I was into matching not only in my interiors, but also in they way I dressed. I can’t believe I’m admitting this, but while me and my now husband were dating we even coordinated outfits! Ew! I know. You live you learn!
In the more recent years I’ve drifted away from my desire to have everything match and go with the mantra that everything must simply just go together. You can have a mix of colors and or patterns and still have it look pleasing to the eye. My favorite designer that follows this philosophy is none other than Kate Spade. I was reminded of Ms. Spades store design recently while catching an episode of one of my greatest guilty pleasures: Gilmore Girls.
Enter Rory Gilmore’s Pool House:
I love all the mix of all the color with yellow being the connecting color that is used throughout the house. The kitchen uses yellow tiles in the backsplash and I’m in love with that blue roman shade. I also love that the brick throughout the house was whitewashed.
Here is another angle of the living room. I would never think to put green damask curtains with yellow panels along with a pink and white striped couch, but it works! It’s so fun and vibrant!
I know it’s a little detail, but I’m in love with those two plump birds perched behind the sofa.
So now that we’ve seen the kitchen and living room lets move right along to the final room, the bedroom!
Yellow once again is used in the room with orange now as the coordinating color. I’m in love with those stripes on the wall. It looks like it alternates between grasscloth and white!
Below you can see more of those amazing stripes and I spy a tulip chair as well!
In order to get a shot of the headboard I only found a picture that was a little risque, but oh well here goes:
It’s massive and very yellow, but again I’m in love with it and so happy to see that brick wall continues into the bedroom.
If someone had tried to describe this pool house to me I’m pretty sure I would have run away crying, but seeing it all come together makes me one happy lady. No room in a bag for this gal, because all of these different components, colors, patterns and textures really just goes so fabulously together that I don’t think I’ll ever match things again!
Hope you all enjoyed my guest post ! I’m sure Ms. Alek is having a wonderful time abroad and I can’t wait for her return!

i was never into matching mostly b/c i kind of stink at it…very cute post.
I l.o.v.e. the riot of color in these interiors! Who knew a pink and white striped cushioned sofa could look so fab! And the combination of the sofa with the green curtains is purely inspired! Segway into that great bedroom and those striped walls leave me reeling. You are so correct, that grass cloth feel combined with the white makes for a beautiful, fresh, exciting wall.
Such a wonderful post, Camila!
Great post, Camila! xo- Brooke
What a great idea to post about. LOVE IT!
I have ALWAYS loved Rory’s pool house. This post says it perfectly.
Oh Camilla, thank you for bringing me an update on the Gilmore girls:-)… my favorite show ever, cause I used to watch it with my girl(all grown up now). Wow how Rory has grown! What can I say…the interior is retro-fabulous with a blast of modernity I simply cannot resist. It is simply stunning. I love the different stipes and the abundance of color, even her candy striper uniform fits in. Fantastic post! Thank you for the update and the feast for my eyes and memory. Happy days.
I just love this. I actually bought the season long ago simply so I could see that pool house again. Crazy, right?
Oh, this is lovely!! I love that bedroom with those stripes!!
I totally LOVE Gilmore Girls…I have been a devoted follower of that & MANY other WB shows for years. Love the banter between Lorelei and Rory…they’re so cute!
